greetings,

settings :
asus maximus formula mainboard (intel x38 northbridge)
intel core2quad

tried to install it on my "new" system.

neither livecd nor mini-install nor install ia64 would work from cd,
its just ignoring the cd as boot option,
i hear the cd-rom starting to spin, but it gets too fast to my other boot-loader (win ^^)
hdds are 2 sata drivers which are set in bios to work as ide drives.
cd is readable, checksum is fine

with an usb stick where i did copy the content of the install cd to i at least get the error code 17 from grub :

filesystem type unknown partition type 0x7
Error 17 : Cannot mount selected partition

however theres no explanation for this code in the boot process as itself.

any ideas how to install a 64bit gentoo there?

Do a google search useing this " site:forums.gentoo.org 64 install " you might add grub to it. but about a month ago there were several questions about 64-bit install.

For your grub 17 error see Sticky: Grub Error Collection [Part 8] [POST GRUB QUESTIONS HERE! and
Code:
info info <IF YOU HAVENT USED "INFO" BEFORE>
info grub

IA64 (itanium) is a totally different architecture than your core2quad, which supports x86. You want the i686 CD for a 32bit or the amd64 CD for a 64bit system. If gentoo's live media don't want to cooperate with your hardware, you can install gentoo from any live CD you want (ubuntu, knoppix,...).

Partition type 0x7 is NTFS, so this is probably not where grub's files are located.

An easy way to avoid installation errors is to leave the Windows harddrive unplugged until you have Gentoo installed and the bootloader configured, then plug the Windows harddrive back in so you can dual-boot.
