emerge error, please help

Hello all,

I got the following error while trzing to emerge xkeycaps and previously gentoolkit:

Can anybody tell me how I could fix it?

I am merging xkeycaps now, and have not run into any problems yet.

When you post something like this it is helpful to include what platform you are running and "exactly" what you did to encounter the error. Another rule of thumb I like to live by is never post something as a "bug" unless you have done some independent testing to first determine if you are not in some way at fault. If you are unsure about where to post a problem try posting to the "All Things Gentoo" board.

So anyway, onto the situation at hand. I am using a PII 266 Dell Lattitude running Gentoo 1.1a for my tests. I had previously not had any X components installed so I needed to build the xfree base first. Since the portage system rocks, I was able to simply do the following:

thanks, I sorted the problem out myself - there was a script in /etc/init.d that contained an error so emerge halted when tried to do env-update

it was "20java" from /etc/init.d, so I simply removed it and everything works now
