is there anyway to get GTK2 to mimic windows with regard to 'tabs'? where it makes a 2 horizontal rows when it fills up the space horizonatlly |

I personally think that is bad. I believe that '<' and '>' buttons to scroll through the tabs would be better.
I hated to deal with multiple rows of tabs, everytime I clicked on one, the order of the rows changes...
I don't know how GTK+2 deals with too many tabs though... |

No there isn't without a custom tab widget. It'd be nice to have though with something like Epiphany/galeon or xchat.
Same thing for qt apps afaik. _________________ what up |

Just for reference, according to usability testing, < & > as seen occasionally in Windows and KDE is a really bad design decision. I don't know how GTK handles it since I don't ever remember seeing a GTK window with that many tabs. |

It seems to me that GTK2 simply compresses the tabs until they fit. I created new tabs in my gnome-terminal until the tabs only had room for one character each on them.
I wouldn't exactly call this usable, but hey, who needs 50 tabs open at a time anyway?
As for tabbed dialogs, I have no idea. I wouldn't be surprised if the official solution is just to make the dialog big enough to fit all the tabs |

See the Tabbed Notebooks entry in the GNOME Human Interface Guidelines.
