I had the following config. failure during emerging one of the package. (I think it was compiz-kconfig-backend)
Code: | configure:31593: result: libraries /usr/kde/3.5/lib, headers /usr/kde/3.5/include
configure:31632: checking if UIC has KDE plugins available
configure:31659: /usr/qt/3/bin/uic -L /usr/kde/3.5/lib/kde3/plugins/designer -nounload -impl actest.h actest.ui > actest.cpp
configure:31662: $? = 0
configure:31676: result: no
configure:31687: error:
you need to install kdelibs first.
If you did install kdelibs, then the Qt version that is picked up by
this configure is not the same version you used to compile kdelibs.
The Qt Plugin installed by kdelibs is *ONLY* loadable if it is the
_same Qt version_, compiled with the _same compiler_ and the same Qt
configuration settings.

I am pretty sure re-emerging kdelibs would probably fix it, but I am curious if there is anyway of checking the version of qt against which the current emerged kdelibs is compiled. _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------

Mathfeel, did reemerging kdelibs fix this problem for you? I have the same issue with kaffeine, k3b and kdvi. I've tried reemerging kdelibs and qt but with no success.
Here is the output from kdvi's update featuring the very same problem. Anyone any ideas??
Cheers, Matt.

It should work.
By any chance, do you have qt-4.x and kdelibs-4.x installed? Note that portage will always select the latest version unless you tell it otherwise. And of course, recompiling qt4 and kdelibs-4 will do kaffeine no good at all. So, if you have 4.x stuff, tell emerge to emerge the 3.x stuff this way:
Code: | emerge --oneshot --nodeps =kdelibs-3.5.9 =qt-3.3.8 |
Check the versions, I just put them as a example, but they might not match yours. |

Try running revdep-rebuild - that should pick up the problem package and re-emerge it for you. |

i92guboj, I am at work now but will trying being more specific in what version of kdelib and qt I ty to emerge. Qt4 is definitely installed but i'm not sure about kdelibs-4.x. Before I left I set it off rebuilding both qt and kdelibs - don't expect it to have made any difference.
AllenJB, I run revdep-rebuild almost everyday as part of my daily update routine It's all I ever seem to do - update update update.
Thanks guys! |

Maybe you should consider not updating every day. I currently tend to update about monthly at the most. |

But if I stop that then my computer would be redundant for almost a month |

Checked the version of kdelibs I had installed kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.9-r4. qt4 was being pulled in as well as qt3.*. Guess that's down to the qt4 use flag I had set. I've unset that flag and now wait for it to complete updating.
Fingers crossed! |

Still no luck. I realised I had a few local packages setup (kaffeine being one of them). Removed them all as I no longer needed them and tried again. Still emerge failed on kaffeine, k3b and kdvi.
qt4 isn't installed. I'm rebuilt kdelibs and qt numerous times and still no positive result. Thing is, nothing seems broken at all, it's just refusing to build newer versions. It's been like it now for a couple of weeks.
If there is any info you feel may help bring forth a diagnosis then just holler.
Thanks
Matt. |

Found a solution to the bug
kde_cv_uic_plugins=yes emerge --resume
Not sure what it's doing but it works. |

Alternatively, you could change your profile to desktop, then this error won't happen (found this workaround on bugzilla):
Code: | $ eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
[1] default-linux/amd64/2007.0
[2] default-linux/amd64/2007.0/desktop
[3] default-linux/amd64/2007.0/no-multilib
[4] default-linux/amd64/2007.0/server
[5] hardened/amd64
[6] hardened/amd64/multilib
[7] selinux/2007.0/amd64
[8] selinux/2007.0/amd64/hardened
[9] default/linux/amd64/2008.0
[10] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop *
[11] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/developer
[12] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/no-multilib
[13] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/server
[14] hardened/linux/amd64
|
I ran Code: | eselect profile set 10 | , and everything worked.
Warning: after you change the profile, you get some new use flags set, you may want to cancel them out in make.conf. |

Cheers so much! This has been pissing me off for a while. The configure stage works now for kde apps. |
