|
|
I want to build a new computer, and I am intrigued by the idea of making it multi seat.
I found the howto: Gentoo Multi seat Howto,
which specifies:
Quote: | multiple graphic cards (or a dual head one providing multiple PCI adresses) (if you have a single address multi head card, you might be interested in projects around Xnest / Xephyr)
|
I want to use one card, so my question is, what is a graphical card with multiple PCI addresses, someone an example of a modern one? Googleing on dual head "multiple pci addresses" does not really explain to me what it is, how do I found a graphical card with this support? How do I find out if a given card with dual head gives me multiple addresses? _________________ only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars |

that would be most modern cards with multiple outputs, i.e. the ATI Radeon X700 |

The ATI Radeon is just dual head, or delivers multiple pci addresses? How do I get to know? _________________ only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars |

it delivers multiple pci adresses. you most notably will get to know this when you first start your xserver with that card and carefully look at its output. it will say something like "no matching device section for BusID "PCI:0:1:1"", which would be the second id of your card. On my desktop, the Radeon X700 delivers PCI:0:1:0 and PCI:0:1:1. lspci might also be of help |

Hi thanks for the information.
With my question of how I get to know if it has multiple addresses, I meant before I buy the card.
In this case the Radeon X700 specifications have nothing that hint having a second bus ID (or does it and I'm missing the keyword?). Now if you are right I know of at least one card which delivers multiple addresses, but I would like to know how I get to know this type of information of a range of graphical cards, so I can make decision what to buy. (It seems the radeonx700 is not available in my area, and I would like to have some more security than "most modern graphical cards") _________________ only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars |

The feature you are looking for would be "Dual Integrated Video Controllers" under "Display Features" |
