Hi,

i need a user which is allowed to have more than 1024 (default) tcp connections.
Yet when i try to use "ulimit -n 2048" i get "operation not permitted"

I tried both method mentioned here:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/SECURITY_Limit_User_Processes

I can't even get a permanent change for root with those methods mentioned there.

I can use "ulimit -n 2048" on root and it works for root only till its session ends.

Tons of guides always show to edit eh /etc/security/limits.conf, but somehow i can edit it no matter how - i get no effect at all.

So my questions:

How do i allow users to have more than 1024 socket connections on gentoo?
How can i make that permanent for that user (and for root too, atm i can only set it for the running session)?

Thanks in advance

Of course,

after you've read half of the whole internet about this problem, 5mins after you make a forums post you find the solution - one of the arts.

Conclusion:

Never trust ufed showing you the +pam useflag is set when it really isn't.

And then someone post the conclusion on a forum, without the solution, and marks it solved.
