|

I'd like to use scrot for screenshooting but it complains
Code: | 17:21 rudi@dphpc0030:~ > scrot foo.png
giblib error: Saving to file foo.png failed |
both for a user and for root. This error has been reported a number of times in the forums of other distributions such as Ubuntu or Suse, and the cure seems to be to emerge (or whatever equivalent they use) something called imlib2-loader, but there doesn't seem to be anything like that on Gentoo. I've got current giblib, imlib, imlib2, and Image-Imlib2 installed. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
By the way, I'm not after other solutions for screenshooting - I have ksnapshot running. I'd like to use scrot because apparently it's possible to screenshoot directly into zim without first having to go through a file browsing dialogue.

Sorry, the thread is very old, but I have the same problem and I dont know how to "remerge with png support" (I am new in the Gentoo's world). How to do it? Thanks! |

vildric ... you just need to add the 'png' useflag:
Code: | # echo "media-libs/imlib2 png" >> /etc/portage/package.use |
"package.use" (which can be a single file or a directory of files) is used for per-package useflags, for 'png' support globally you can add it to USE= in make.conf. Once the useflag is enabled re-emerge the package.
There are various methods of managing useflags, 'euse' from app-portage/gentoolkit and app-portage/flaggie ... (and others), but 'echo' or editing the file directly works just as well.
best ... khay |
