Try again. It might have been down for a bit of maintenance. I just tried it, and it worked.
Actually, I'd recommend you want a couple days. I'm in the middle of changing the seeds' settings. I'm halfway through the configuration portion presently, and hope to finish that tomorrow, as well as the mass production after the configuration is done. I'm thinking things should be done and up by Thursday, the eleventh.
I'll post as soon as things are done.
Blessed be!

Just in time for the Holiday Season, and all those new laptops and desktops waiting to be unwrapped and relieved of their Windoze burden, I offer my gift to the community.
I've reconfigured all of the kernels with the following:
- Returned previous ACPI support
- Turned yenta PCMCIA on
- Turned off the security settings in the .27 kernels
- Turned I2C device interface under I2C support
- Turned on MCE. You still have to pick your CPU type.
- Turned on EDAC support
- Turned off nvram support
- Reviewed and tweaked other settings.
I've also added .configs for 2.6.26-gentoo-r4, 2.6.27-gentoo-r6, and 2.6.27.9 using the -04 settings. As always, enjoy!
Blessed be!

Just in time for Christmas, Santa Pappy has just uploaded .configs for the much awaited 2.6.28 kernel in both x86 and x86_64 flavors. Yes, before it even hits portage, Pappy's Kernel Seeds has configs for 2.6.28. I even used a custom ebuild to emerge it properly.
I want to thank all those who have tried my kernel seeds. You have helped bring one of my ideas to life. Merry Christmas to all you!
Blessed be!

As a just slightly belated Boxing Day present to my British and Canadian friends; well, really to everyone, I have uploaded new .configs in for 2.6.28-gentoo in both x86 and x86_64 flavors. Enjoy.
Blessed be!

VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR x86_64 USERS!!!
When setting up the .28 kernel, be VERY cautious. Leave another fully functional prior version kernel your the machine.
I have found some interesting, and might I add nerve-wracking bugs with both 2.6.28-gentoo-x86_64-04.config and 2.6.28-x86_64-04.config. Use them with caution. I am going to see if I can find the root, or perhaps see what creepy crawler(s) might be causing the problems I noted with my machine: systemic slowdowns, really weird X behavior, random locks, and what appeared to initally be a disk crash. It wasn't, but it was scary nonetheless. I'll also be looking at the bug reports.
Those interested in helping find the bugs, or verifying their existence, please let me know.
Blessed be!

It appears that deactivating
Code: | Processor type and features -->
[*] /dev/cpu/microcode
[*] Intel microcode patch loading support (NEW) | stops the really weird freak out that scared me a touch. The machine acted for all the world as if the hard drive or memory just out and out died. I will be checking later to verify this, or to post a bug report for it. I have reconfigured 2.6.28 and 2.6.28-gentoo to turn that off, and fix some other errors. The new .configs are available now. The problem doesn't seem to affect x86 systems, but I turned microcode off anyway, just in case.
Blessed be!

Hi Pappy,
Used the 2.6.27-gentoo-r7 seed on my second Gentoo box a couple of days ago.
I got a little bit of trouble with my Canon IP4000 USB printer. The seed had USB printing enabled, but my printer also needed
CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD set (device drivers->USB Support->OHCI HCD support). If I understand the help text correct this is the USB 1.1 support.
My machine (based on an Asus A78NX delux board) support USB 2.0, so I think it is the printer the required 1.1. Is this now an old one? is 1.1 now so old it needs to go on the dustbin?
You might be right in keeping it off by default and leave it to those who have 1.1 devices to enable it. Thought I'd point it out in case its a mistake.

The number of machines that use OHCI is minuscule. I have found that OHCI can cause problems with certain UHCI devices, so I don't turn OHCI on. It's definitely not a mistake.
Yes, OHCI is for 1.1 operation. If you show at least one EHCI device, then you also have USB 2.0...which is to say, you most likely have EHCI as well.
Blessed be!

Out in the wild, that may be true, but 9 of the 12 machines that are kicking around my house use OHCI ... |

Sorry about that. Of course, my seeds were meant to be reconfigured and tweaked, anyway. I'm trying out some new stuff even now that may find it's way into the kernel seeds. It's lots of fun setting up and playing with new kernel setting.
It would be piggish of me to keep all the fun for myself.
Blessed be!

Yes.
My apologies to one and all, but until further notice, the seeds site is down. Anyone interested in a kernel seed, please private message me and I'll email it to you.
I was going to make that announcement as I just received word of the server situation. You beat me to the punch.
Blessed be!

It's a veritable smorgasbord of kernel .configs! I just added new .configs for 2.6.27.12, 2.6.28.1, 2.6.27-gentoo-r8 (sure to be popular), and 2.6.28-gentoo-r1 in both x86 and x86_64 flavors.
Also, the flowers are soon to be blooming again. I've been working on some new settings, and they are just about ready for release. A few lucky individuals have gotten to test these settings as well. No problems so far.
Oh, and for the curious, no, I haven't tried to see if 2.6.28.1 is less troublesome than 2.6.28. I will later on.
Blessed be!

2.6.28.1 continues to be problematic with all Intel systems. I do not recommend it for such.
It does work well with an Intel system with an nVidia video card, so if that's you, give 2.6.28 a try. I have reports that non-Intel chipset boards have no problem with it. I can see that.
I also have reports that there are some video glitches with ATI, but I have no way of independently verifying that, so you're on your own there. If you know of such problems please post it here, and see if there's a bug report on the issue. If not, please report it.
Blessed be!

That's pretty much just plain wrong unless you're only dealing with Intel chipsets. I have three desktop systems, 2 with Nvidia chipsets and one with an AMD chipset. All three use OHCI. My T61 laptop has an Intel chipset and uses UHCI. All of them have Nvidia graphics controllers and work fine with gentoo-sources.2.6.28 kernels.

Going by the .configs I've written, this is the case. I think I have enabled OHCI on one or two machines among the 81 machines I've configured. It doesn't matter, as my seeds are made to be configured for your proper devices. In a few cases, I help out by setting up devices that exist in the real world. Since my real world tells me that ohci USB support isn't as common as uhci, what am I to do?
Blessed be!

pappy_mcfae,
You can set them both as modules. As long as only the right one loads, its harmless.
Its mostly harmless even f they both load but there are a few chip sets out there that really don't like that. _________________ Regards,

Neddy,
For now, it's working out. I do want to avoid the driver conflict. I've had it happen to me, and I've helped out others who had it happen. Since I live in a mostly Intel world, that's where I'm aiming.
Besides, I always go through every item to make sure I have what I need. I'd expect nothing less of someone who wants to use my seeds as a base. My seeds are by no means ready to go out of the box...close, but not too close.
Every .config I've used since I began setting up the seeds has been based on the seed kernel settings at the time. Since I'm working with the flowers, all my machines are running the latest and greatest Pappy kernel settings. I'm going to be releasing the new seeds either this weekend or early this week.
Blessed be!

The flowers have bloomed. The updated seeds are now ready. I have redone all the .configs. I have also added .configs for 2.6.28.2 in both x86 and x86_64 flavors. Enjoy the updates.
I also accidentally deleted the most recent update of the page. The most recent one I could find other than that is from December 17, so I lose a few bits in the history portion of the page.
If anyone still has the old page cached, please send me the html via private message. While it's not that big of a deal, I'd like to be able to keep the history unbroken.
Blessed be!

An incredibly large amount of thanks to NeddySeagoon for saving my bacon with a newer version of the site that was on his machine. I only had to add a couple updates. Lesson learned: update file locally, save with date code locally, backup, and upload finished file.
Anyway, since I didn't do so in the last post on the topic, below are the changes to the version 5 Pappy's Seed Kernels:
- Turned on ACPI video and all required support drivers under Graphics support.
- Turned on Local APIC for uniprocessors under Processor type and features for x86.
- Turned on Generic thermal sysfs driver.
- Turned on Legacy /proc/scsi support.
- Turned off NFS-4 and all associated options.
- Turned off SMT (hyperthreading) schedule support as it showed a bias toward Intel CPU's
Enjoy!
Blessed be!

At long last, I found the round toit, and set up a how to page for working with my Kernel Seeds.
Hope you like it! I sure do!
