I had a working Gentoo 2007 boot/shutdown splash theme incl. progress bar with KDE 3.5.
Now with KDE 4.2, the boot splash works OK, but when I am doing a shutdown, it just shows a corrupt screen, not the splash theme.
I guess, this has something to do with the 3D desktop effects.
I am using a laptop with the open source radeon driver and xorg-server 1.5.3.
Any hints?
Thanks! |

Make sure your grub.conf is correct and you might have to recompile the initrd file using splashutils, and recompile your kernel with the correct arguments set. I had to do this to get my bootsplash working when I updated to @kde-4.2. Here is the source I used to get it working.

Thanks for the tip.
In the meantime, I saw it sometimes working...
Anyway, I now have recreated kernel and initrd and will check, if it now works always during shutdowns. |
