Sorry peoples i have a very bad english?but i'll try...
I am a novice in gentoo & linux.
I install gentoo & gnome as gui frontend, after that install ALSA (Mplayer & VLC works perfect) but i have ho sounds inside the gnome.
Clicking on volume control:
"The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer"
emerge media-libs/gstreamer don't help me
Wine has no sound too.
nano & eog does not show .jpg files, i'll emerge jpeg and add jpeg to the USE variable, reinstall eol & gtk-engines but still has the problem.
Thanks for help. |

Maybe ALSA isn't working like it should, and mplayer falls back on OSS. Does mplayer still work if you run it with mplayer -ao alsa <filename>? Do you have anything in /dev/snd/? _________________ PKA Cuber

mplayer -ao alsa /media/disk-2/video/Mla_DVDRip_Rus_Eng_UArt.avi
works
ls /dev/snd

I install alsa end edit USE variable after installing gnome, may be that is the problem?
May be some other environment variables must be set? |

That may be it. Re-emerge all packages with outdated use flags with: Code: | emerge --newuse -Dav world |

try eclean-dist --destructive to delete all downloaded and outdated distfiles. Will save a lot of space. |
