|
|
I just got ogle to play DVDs which is really cool, but it only works when I am root (using sux). I am in KDE, so I need to use artsdsp. So if I give the command:
artsdsp ogle
The DVD plays really slow and choppy and my kterm fills with the following lines:
++Debug[ogle_audio]: 0.+085996640 s off, resyncing
Debug[ogle_audio]: 0.+086000640 s off, resyncing
Debug[ogle_audio]: 0.+086331960 s off, resyncing
Now, I know this is a problem with artsdsp, because if I log in using twm insteas of KDE and run ogle, it plays fine. So how can I get ogle to play nice with artsdsp without having to log in as root (which I assume bypasses artsdsp and that's why it works)??
Thanks for any suggestions. |

Just a suggestion but have you tried mplayer or kmplayer?
I use just mplayer to do DVD's and it allows me to do it no matter which user I use. |

If you open the KDE control panel, click on 'Sound and Multiimedia', then choose 'Sound Sytem' and UNCHECK 'start arts soundserver on startup' and press apply it will suspend asrtsd.
Then just start your movie by running ogle withOUT prepending 'artdsp' to the command.
You can then RE-click it when you are finished with your movie. Thats what I do and it works perfectly. Artsd is simply too resource intensive; I dont want to listen to background sounds during a film anyway. |

I upgraded recently to Gnome 2.4. I had been using gxine, but now it appears to segfault on playing DVDs. It plays the first chapter, but then quits. I cannot seem to get it or totem to display a DVD playlist/chapter list.
Can anybody help?
If I try to emerge xine-dmd, it wants to downgrade my gxine-lib. Perhaps I'll try that.

Wow--I just upgraded to KDE 3.1.4 and it fixed everything! Kickass. I can run Ogle as a user through artsd and it plays flawlessly. Thanks for the suggestions, peeps. |
