Mozilla and Firebird seem to load pages awfully slow, and the statusbar on the bottom says "Looking up host <URL goes here>..." Even Gentoo pages take half minute to load up. I think something is blocking Mozilla, since with Opera every page loads in seconds. What's the prob? _________________ "Discipline is my sword, faith is my shield" -Overseer Grimal |

Some kind of DNS issue? Or maybe Opera is using a proxy and Mozilla is not, or vice versa? _________________ Yes, I'm the man. Now it's your turn to decide if I meant "Yes, I'm the male." or "Yes, I am the Unix Manual Page.". |

I don't use proxy. I get internet access through another computer in LAN, so my DNS address and Gateway is set to 192.168.0.1 (the LAN comp). Mozilla has some problems with that? _________________ "Discipline is my sword, faith is my shield" -Overseer Grimal |

That gateway provides DNS services then? If it doesn't, it's usual to set your DNS to some external DNS server, rather than the gateway. |

Try to spy your network traffic with ethereal/tcpdump and see if that reveals what makes Mozilla wait so long. _________________ Yes, I'm the man. Now it's your turn to decide if I meant "Yes, I'm the male." or "Yes, I am the Unix Manual Page.". |

it's not a dns issue, it's a mojira bug.
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=79020
the worst is that once firebird or mozilla start to hang up trying to "resolve" one address, any subsequent tabs or windows will wait for the first one to finish up. also, if you quit while it is in this state, zombie processes will stay around until you kill them (and if you don't, re-starting firebird behaves rather oddly, not surprising...)
so yes, anything else like opera or dnsip etc. will work normally at normal speed even when mojira is behaving badly. _________________ I've got the brain, I'm insane, you can't stop the power |
