|
|
Hi there,
So... what is the best image viewer in your opinion? I just bought a digital camera, and I wanted a SW that would allow me to browse my pictures, show them in full screen, etc... If I can select some of them and even make a webpage out of it, that would be great.
Ok, I DON'T want an image editor, I will use GIMP for that, no doubt. But GIMP is not the best option when I simply want to show off the pictures I got.
Andre
PS: For those that use windoze sometimes, I am looking for something like IrfanView (www.irfanview.com) |

Hello,
i recommend gqview. I tested a lot of image-viewers, and it's the most functional (at least for me).

Well, the best viewer is Iview32, but doesn't exist for Lin AFAIK. gqview is a good Lin Viewer, I use that one. |

I used to use one called electric eyes that worked well. pixie is a decent image manager but the interface is a bit "clunky". If Cerious would port ThumbsPlus to Linux then we'd have a really nice image cataloging system. |

I've tried most of these and have to add another vote for gqview. It's lite, fast, and shows thumbnails of images in your current working directory. |

Just gtk apps up to now?
I've never tried the above mentioned, but I love kuickshows feature to open it by click on one picture in a directory and then browse through all pictures in that directory with the mousewheel very fast, because it automatically preloades the next/previous ones after showing that one you clicked on.
Esp. with a wireless mouse you can start a slideshow with one click, give someone else the seat in front of the monitor, and simply use the mouse as a remote control
Don't know why kuickshow is so underrated, it has everything I'ld expect from a image viewer and is pretty fast. Some people also like Mosfet's pixie very much.
The HTML image gallery generation is done under KDE by a plugin in konquerors "Extra" Menu.

Why doesn't any gnome app feature this? (the prev/next image thing)
eog doesn't have it and I've tried just about every other alternative out there and the best I've found was a gtk1 app where you couldn't just open a pic in a dir and the browse, you had to open the imageview, go to that dir, dbl click one pic, THEN the browse back/forward began to work, by then it's useless. |

Hi all,
Thanks for the inputs. I've tried gqview and pornview, that were the most mentioned, and I decided to go with gqview. It has all the major features I expected from a image viewer.
By the way: gqview resembles a Gnome application (gnome 1.4 though). It was not included in the Applications menu automatically, I had to do it manually. Other than that, it works perfectly.

Pornview works very well, but the app name is kind of embarassing if you use it to display images for clients like I do.
gqview-1.3.2 works pretty much the same and is ported to gtk2. I have ~x86 enabled, so you might get the older version if you don't. |

If you're into KDE, try Pixie Plus - beats kuickshow hands down |

Vote for gqview!
eog is very nice for just having a look, like kuickshow.
I'm emerging xv and pornview to try something different.
And still looking for a prog that's more like ACDSee for Win...

Gqview gets my vote, not the best I've seen.. But so far the best I've used on linux, used pixie and eog a lot some years ago, but their imo too outdated. |

Ok, I throw another one in.
XnView
IMHO it's the fastest image-browser in win (though I haven't played with irfan for years) and it's available for linux too.
I especially like the hotkeys, you browse with the arrows, rotate by shift left/right and when proceeding to the next pic you're asked if you want to save your changes and you save the rotated one just by hitting the space bar. Very fast that is.
It also has batch resizing/conversion and supports lot of formats.
Unfortunately it's not gpled but at least it's free of charge.
Try it if you like. _________________ linux user 65882 |
