I'm trying to install gnome 2.4 by using the masked ebuild in /usr/portage/gnome-base/gnome and it has successfully built 124 of 127 packages need to run, however whenever it attempts to build the last 3 (epiphany and gnome-session are two of them) I get the following error:
configure: error: gconf-sanity-check-2 executable not found in your path - should be installed with GConf.
Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? |

I got this error as well. I solved it with the following:
Code: |
% cat > /usr/local/bin/gconf-sanity-check-2 <<EOF
#!/bin/sh
exit 0
EOF
% chmod +x /usr/local/bin/gconf-sanity-check-2

Have you already tried:
Code: | emerge sync
emerge -Up world
check for nasty things, if not then
emerge -U world
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -Up gnome
same checking procedure for nasty shit again :-)
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"emerge -U gnome
|
A emerge sync works with me most of the time |

Thanks for your help guys, I finially got Gnome to compile, however . . .
Everytime I log in through gdm I get the following error:
Your session lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself, this could mean that there is some installation problem or that you may be out of diskspace. Try logging in with one of the failsafe sessions to see if you can fix the problem.
~/.xsession-errors file
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession//Default: Registering your session with xtmp and utmp
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession//Default: running: sessreg -a -w /var/log/xtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm/:O.Xservers" -h "" -l :O username
I tried all the session options and the only ones that will work are xsession and failsafe xterm.
Oh yeah, and I tried all that stuff damen said (ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"emerge -U gnome and such) and everything is up to date.
Are there some config files I need to edit or something?
Could it be my ati mobility 9000 graphics card be screwing it up? (I don't think so because I can start an Xsession with no problem)
Thanks again . . . |

Does it actually log you out of gnome after it gives you that error or does it just give the error and leave you in gnome?
Sorry, I can't tell from your post. _________________ "My downfall raises me to infinite heights." -Napoleon Bonaparte |
