There is a description here.

If you're already linking against qt-4.5, then I don't think so. |

Yeah, I was the other way around, as soon as I realized it used 400mb memory I got rid of it (and yeah, I realize that's an extreme scenario, but it did with stock settings, which for me is completely unacceptable), I use qt creator now anyway, and it can lookup header files for me |

I've fixed the krunner problem.
It was also caused by the raster flag in qt-4.5.0. Looks like we'll have to wait a while before kde makes full use of it without annoyances.
Restarting krunner with --graphicssystem native fixes all the crashes.
So far, kwin, dolphin and krunner all require this flag to work properly if qt-4.5 is compiled with the raster flag. I still think it's worth it, because everything else feels snappier. |

kolourpaint crashing here...
Code: | holysword@kuroiryu /Lago $ kolourpaint
Starting KolourPaint on a 24-bit screen...
KCrash: Application 'kolourpaint' crashing...
sock_file=/Holysword/.kde4/socket-kuroiryu/kdeinit4__0 |
Then it shows a nice dialog with "The application KolourPaint (kolourpaint) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)." and "Unable to create valid backtrace"... _________________ "Nolite arbitrari quia venerim mittere pacem in terram non veni pacem mittere sed gladium" (Yeshua Ha Mashiach) |

|
|
Is anyone else seeing Klipper (or other items in the system tray) showing the wrong icon? Yesterday, Klipper started appearing with the Nepomuk icon, so now it looks like Nepo is running twice. The only other thing in my system tray right now is Kmix, and so far it still looks like itself.
I have tried:
- Rebuilding Klipper
- Rebuilding plasma-workspace
- Killing Klipper, Nepomuk, plasma itself, logging in & out (I even rebooted, though for a different reason)
- Disabling desktop indexing
- Resizing the panel
I am running KDE 4.2.1, Qt 4.4.2, with kdeprefix, without raster, not using overlays or sets. This is a recent install, and KDE 4.2 was installed first, then later as much of 3.5.10 as required for k3b. I built Amarok also, but using "-kde" in order not to bring in a bunch of 3.5.9 stuff. In order not to make this post ridiculously long, "emerge --info" may be found here: http://pastebin.com/m6da86893
Any ideas? It's a cosmetic problem but it does mean I have to puzzle out where to click sometimes. |

Is anyone else having problems with kickoff and kmenuedit?
Right now in 2 machines (a 4.2.0 and 4.2.1 both of which have 3.5.10 installed at the same time), kmenuedit changes are not picked up by kickoff.
Kmenuedit seems to update ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu and that's all. Seems it has something to do with XDG, but I'm not really sure how the whole thing works. In another thread here, someone said that rebuild kde 4 with kdeprefix fixed the problem for him. |

Assuming that was directed at me, I'm rebuilding on Qt 4.5 now. I thought I had used 4.5 to start with, but looking at my package.keywords, I had only allowed x11-libs/qt-4.5.0, and not the rest of the qt-* parts. So everything got built against 4.4.2 as I stated above. When I get home (I love ssh!) I'll be able to see if this fixes the little bug.
Edit: For the record, rebuilding KDE against Qt 4.5 seems to have fixed this; Klipper is no longer impersonating Nepomuk. The only other difference I notice is that the Alt-F2 thingy actually runs things like Kate if I just type "kate" and push Enter; previously it required me to hit Tab first. This is a good thing.

Could anyone test whether the solid-network works? I got this error:
Code: | $ solid-network listdevices

I tried to reemerge solid, but still the same error.

No problems with unicode here. What sort of problems?
I do have much poorer font substitution after upgrading to qt 4.5 and kde 4.2.1 from 4.4/4.2. All Asian fonts are not anti-aliased for some reason. |

Well, konsole, konqueror and other kde-programs do not recognize things like á,ã,ö,í,ç and etc. Even less things like α,β,δ,γ,τ,μ,π, etc.
The funny thing is that I'm using E17 right now, and when I open Konqueror or Konsole into E17 it does not have any kind of problem. I think that I'm just missing some configuration at systemsettings

Have you checked your LOCALE and LC_CTYPE?
Try checking from a terminal whether they are OK, then launching a konsole from that terminal and see if that works.
If that works, create a file called /etc/env.d/99kde-env and put all your LOCALE, LC_CTYPE and other variable definitions in there. Then env-update and restart kde.
I had issues with KDE4 not inheriting the environment variables from the shell from which I run startx. This led to things like LC_CTYPE not being set for KDE apps, which led to problems like SCIM outputting garbage. You may be having a similar issue. |

Could someone help me with this bug?
First would be good if I know whether the "init_solid_fakenet" should be in /usr/kde/4.2/lib64/kde4/solid_fakenet.so or not.

Is there any way to bind numpad keys to global shortcuts?
I tried using xmodmap but it still can't differ between KP_HOME and the "standard" home key, or KP_9 from the "standard" 9 key, depending on if numlock is on or off. _________________ GCC-4.3.3-r1 - march=core2, gentoo-sources-2.6.30-r2 SMP x86_64 @ Core2Duo 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM |

Could someone please not ignore me a second time and tell me why you removed the help center content? After the htmlhandbook use flag got canned there are no help files being built. Should I download them somehow manually? is there a separate package? If not why don't you go and remove the help center all together?
Second, after updating to 4.2.1 the News plasmoid no longer retrieves any feed. Not even the default kde one. Initially, it does not even try to do refresh, remaining white. After I press refresh manually, the white background is replaced by the normal black, but no content is shown. My feeds are working and 4.2 version had no problem with any of them.
Should I post the above two as bugs? I've never done that before so I'd appreciate some pointers. |

First of all, I don't think anyone is deliberately ignoring you--forums.gentoo.org is a big place and I can guarantee you that not every thread gets seen as much as we'd like them to. Also, sometimes the developers follow these threads and sometimes they don't. That's just the nature of these things.
I would highly recommend searching bugs.gentoo.org to see if anyone has the same problems that you're experiencing. If you can't find any, then I would go ahead and file a couple of bugs; you'll have to register on bugs.gentoo.org to do so. They actually have a pretty good form that walks you through the steps of filing a bug, even if you've never done so before (there's also an expert mode for once you've become familiar with it).
Good luck, I sincerely hope you find an answer to the problems you're having. |

a bug report exists, hopefully it will be resolved, it can't be difficult to fix.
I'm having exactly the same problem -- no help in the majority of kde4 applications. |

You have to enable "doc" USE flag to build help files.
If you don't want to enable it globally you can make list with `eix -C kde -U doc --only-names|sed s/$/\ doc/` and put it in /etc/packages/packages.use/
Remember to remove kdelibs - doc flag builds unnecessary API documentation which doubles build time. |

I can't find any KDE 4 packages with a doc flag. Certainly digikam, kate and konqueror don't have it, and I don't remember seeing it elsewhere.
Was it added for 4.2.2? |
