Im not sure whats happening but in the upgrade to kde 4.2.2, I now no longer have a working kcontrol print module. I also had updated python and did python-updater but still no good. Also I am about 85% of the way through an emerge --empty-tree =kde-base/kde-meta3.5.10 but still I cannot use the print module. Printing itself actually works but nor the kde print module works nor if I try with gnome-cups-manager, it doesn't start either. _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

KDE printer applet is gone in KDE 4. There was a new applet coming for that, but I don't know if it has been even finished yet...

More on this subject: in theory, it seems that there are 2 new applications for this (kde-base/printer-applet and kde-base/system-config-printer-kde), which are in theory part of kdeutils-meta and kdeadmin-meta packages respectively.
They are commented unside those ebuilds, apparently waiting for them to get unmasked, as they were introduced in Portage some time ago (when 4.2 came out, IIRC...). However, they don't seem to be in Portage anymore.
Could someone please ellaborate a bit on this subject? What's the exact state of those packages in Gentoo? According to KDE roadmap, these are the replacements for old kdeprint package, and they are marked as 'done':

Sorry guys, it was actually in kde 3.5 that I was having the problem but a emerge --emptytree =kde-meta-3.5.10 solved the problem. _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

Oops, I really thought you had the problem I had when I first migrated to KDE 4
Anyway, I'm going to oen a new thread on this subject, as the current KDE 4 printing status is really annoying me...
