Hi,
I just emerged gnucash 1.8.4 and tried to use it. When I select the new user tutorial on starting gnucash, the program crashes. If I go ahead with creating new accounts and then try to access any menu items, the program crashes again. I've to start from scratch each time, when I start gnucash again. What might be wrong?
thanks in advance!

I did not have any problem.
Since, 1.8.7 is out why do not you try to upgrade. It might resolve the problem |

I installed gnucash 1.8.7 and still have the same problem, that of a program crash, as soon as I try to access any menu item.
thanks!

Do you get errors like this:
Code: |
gtkhtml-ERROR **: gconf error: Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit)
aborting...

This is what I get if I try to use the Help menu. Probably this is because I'm not running any gnome 1.4 gconf server. Start gnucash from an xterm and see what it tells you when it crashes. _________________ "Do you hear that sound your Highness?"

I get the exact same error message. I'm running gnucash under KDE, probably that's why I'm getting the error message. How do I start gconfd? I did an "emerge -s gconfd" and couldn't find a package for it.
thanks! |

I had a similar problem after installing Gnome 2.4, seems like gconfd-2 doesn't like gconfd-1
I am almost sure this is the same problem

Indeed it seems so. I started gcond-1 manually and the problem went away. Can I add gconfd-1 to some script so that it starts automatically or should I wait for a bug fix?
thanks! |
