|
|
Ok this is minor, but I just setup framebuffer and v86d and now my cute little tux showing how many procs I have turn into this strange looking black cat with a 'beak' trying to look like tux! Anyone know what this is and how to change it back?
Looks like this:

A little research suggests this has something to do with Linus Torvalds and save the Tasmanian Devil campaign....
I guess this is something in the latest kernel.....nevermind its just a latest kernel release thing. Thought I got a poached kernel from portage at first

Linus and the kernel gang were persuaded by an outfit trying to save the tasmanian devil from a disease to put "taz" in a penguin disguse for a major kernel version. There was also some donation money involved at some fund raiser. Tux will be back next major release. |

Did the kernel splash image change? I get this instead of penguins when I boot the minimal x86 LiveCD dated 20090623 --> http://smkent.net/stuff/gentoo-splash.png (sorry for the crappy picture quality)
Also, is this image configurable in the kernel options somewhere? |

Also, is this image configurable in the kernel options somewhere? | I also had those (ugly!) images in my 2.6.29 kernel. When I upgraded to 2.6.30 the old penguins were back. I'm guessing that the latest livecd was built with 2.6.29.
EDIT: Apparently this alternative logo is called Tuz and is a tasmanian devil wearing a penguin mask. Apparently it was added into the kernel sources to bring some awareness on the plight of these animals.

Personally, I was quite happy to see tux back in 2.6.30 |
