Setting a profile for a new system, i see the profile list has grown a bit , are there any any real significant differences between these 2 profiles;
[2] default/linux/x86/2008.0/desktop
[6] default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop
What is the 10.0/desktop profile about ? |

after installing the stage-3 and the portage snapshot, i entered my chroot and went to select my profile with eselect, and i have 10 or 12 profiles, from default thru the hardened profiles. I went with the default/x86/2008.0/desktop, but i was wondering what the new set was. There are 3 or 4 profiles in the /10.0/ directory. |

These 10.0 profiles seem to be brand new I haven't seen them before.

I would wait on that a little, until we know what it is.
But if you wish to be bold and audacious (bodacious) like a real Gentooer then go ahead and set the profile, then look at your emerge --info and if you like what you see, then go ahead and use it.
And if your computer launches to the moon, then that will be good experience for us. |

Well now, that's good to know. I'm going to switch as soon as I have it in my profile list. |

... there are some small differences, some USE flags are changed.
This morning on 2008.0 I had 27 updates and 10.0 had 35 updates. Looks like qt3support and esd were removed from 10.0. |

There were some USE changes in the 10.0 profiles, and I believe there were a good amount in the desktop profile especially. There should be some talk of the 10.0 profiles in the recent gentoo-dev and gentoo-dev-announce mailing list archives. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

In fact, qt3 and esd are removed I think inside the 10.0 profile by default. |
