Hello everyone,

since I had an SUN 20" CRT standing around I decided to connect it to my PC. Now it's working but I have a "little" problem. The Sun is attached to the DVI out and my Samsung to the normal CRT out.
I want my Samsung to be the primary monitor, not the sun. I cant find these settings anywhere. So if anyone can point me to a HOWTO(read nVidias) or tell me how to do this I'll be forever grateful.

Thanks,

Diezel

you could get a spare video card and connect the CRT to it, and get a dual monitor setup going very easily like that...

Since I have a dual out on my GF I'm not fond of the idea getting a new card for this.
Is there really no way of choosing wich monitor is used as the primary one.

I don't have a setting like that.
The primary display is the CRT out until the nVidia drivers load with X. So I don't think it is due to BIOS settings.
Any other ideas?

if you have the nVidia drivers installed, you should have the docs at /usr/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README.
look in the twinview section

the readme is also available at nvidias website

I've read the README, trust me I'm not totally new to this. Twinview is working fine. The problem is that nVidia drivers are using the wrong out as primary. I even installed Windows to check if it does the same and no, it works just as it should in Windows.

I remember playing round with that a while ago and couldn't find out how to do it. So ended up switching the connectors at the back of the computer that the monitors are plugged into.

This assumes that you have a DVI to RGB adapter so both monitors can use RGB on the DVI connector.

Hope that helps. I'm sure there is a software way to do that. But I never figured it out. It could be the DVI has higher priority in hardware than the RGB connector on the Card.

I have actually done that to. And it works fine, but since I am using an _old_ Sun monitor(cut the cabel and made it VGA) it doesn't show a picture untill after you make your grub choice. This isnt that a big deal but I would still like it to work the way I want it to work.
Emailed nVidia so let's see if they can give me an ansver.
Thanks anyway to all of you.
Any ideas are still welcome.

That's interesting that it doesn't work until after you make a choice in grub. Mine showed the same thing on both monitors (clone) from the time the computer was turned on until X started up and it went into two screen mode using TwinView.

That's because of the monitor. Sun made it non multisync and now I changed it back. So that's my own problem. But I still would like to switch the Primary and secondary monitor to the way they are during boot up.
Because the change doesn't happen until the nVidia drivers load.
