With the introduction of Firebird .7 I was wondering what people's favorite webbrowser is. I used to use epiphany since I switched over to gnome but for some reason i like firebird .7 even though it's not as pretty. Is anyone using something else I should be looking into?
Thanks!

I used to use firebird until a month ago when I switched from kde 3.1 to kde-cvs. I've been using Konqueror ever since.

The changes between 0.6 and 0.7 aren't big enough for me to switch back to firebird, but it is a damn fine browser none-the-less. I just want something that integrates with KDE better.

I like Mozilla :)

I've been using it since the Milestone days. I have been using 1.2 until recently. I tried firebird 0.7rc for about a week, but now with Mozilla 1.5 out I'm back to that.

I built it with
Code:
+java -crypt -ipv6 +gtk2 +ssl -ldap +gnome -mozsvg -mozcalendar -mozaccess -mozp3p -mozxmlterm +moznoirc +moznomail +moznocompose -moznoxft
and I get a nice browser with fewer "extras" that I don't use.

I'm quite comfortable with Mozilla myself, and have used it for the past year and a half or so since the .9 (or so) release.

Its damn sexy aswell.

One thing that I like about konq is that you can split the view and have two pages open next to eachother. I guess this nothing compared to tabs. I do like galeon/epiphany moreso than firebird. They handle tabs better IMO because they have the X on the tab plus they can have more tabs open than space allows with arrows. Firebird is nice but still needs lots of work IMO. Lately I find myself aligned more with the gnome camp. Konq is a nice app, but it just seems to much like a explorer wannabe. I like how a lot of discussion is going on about the future of nautilus (think spatial) and how we really have two browsers to choose for on Gnome. If I were you I would stick with ephipany or galeon.

yet another vote for epiphany here...though before I installed gnome last week I was using firebird. I'm not sure why, but after installing Gnome I just switched :)

Mozilla with the Multizilla plugin. Full control of the tabs, move to different window or different place on this window, open previously closed tabs, close all to the right or left, close button on the tabs. And it has a google toolbar.

I can't stand Konqueror as a browser. It's slow and it has crashed innumerable times on me. Twice so bad I had to reinstall it which requires reemerging kde-base. Pain in the ass.

why'd you have to reinstall it? surely you can't have been running it as root, so no damage could've been done...

Strange, the way galeon/epiphany handles tabs is the reason I don't use them :)

Same.. I think the close boxes on the tabs are horrible waste of real estate. konq-cvs has a option for a solution between the two: hovering over the favicon changes to a close button. The Moz/Firebird like close button is there by default, which is a big improvement from Konq 3.1 (which I couldn't stand using due to it's poor tab handeling)

Yeah, I felt that way about Konq in KDE 3.1 as well. However, CVS is a _lot_ improved. The tab support was rewritten (it's pretty much like Mozilla w/ Multizilla now.. close button in the tabbar, tab highlighting, and being able to move/reshuffle/detach tabs) and thanks to Safari, there are large speed improvements.

The last time I used Konq as a browser before recently was back around when KDE 2.0 came out. It was a good improvement over NS 4.7 when Mozilla was still immature (hrmm.. around Moz M16)..

It seems I'm in the minority here...but...I actually use Galeon, and prefer it over Epiphany...Epiphany is a little too slimmed-down for my tastes, and I'm sad that it won't be considered part of the 'official' Gnome desktop anymore =(

Though there are many good open source browser, I still prefer opera. First, the page drawing and the ui are fast. Second, it can be customized to fit my style just right.

The tab browsing in opera is the best IMO. I can just middle click to close a tab, which is much faster than to click an "X" or right click then select close. Plus, I can have the new tab opened beside the current tab I am browsing, and when I close a tab I can be back to the previously browsed tab. The best part is that the tab browsing behaviour is part of the browser, so I don't need to rely on some other usually buggy extensions. Opera, unlike most other browsers, was designed to use tab browsing from the beginning.

I would like to use konqueror, it is fast enough but the ui is less than desirable. For instance, it lacks a google search box and the address bar can only store about 20 urls -- I am just too lazy to type most of the time :?

galeon never was part of the official gnome desktop.. at least it wasn't in gnome 1.4. I have no idea about gnome 2.x, but I doubt it.

I'm fairly certain it was the 'preferred' Gnome web browser of 2.2, if not the official one...

No, not running it as root. It just stopped working. Clicking on any link would cause it to segfault the last time it broke. The other time I think tabs stopped working. Just wouldn't open any up.
