After kochi-fonts became kochi-substitute, I've been having problems with getting display of japanese fonts to work. Mozilla mail seems to use its own jisx fonts and works, but for instance gaim and xchat2 and openoffice doesnt work: certain kanji and the vowel prolongation dash is displayed as a small square box with 4 alphanumeric numbers in them. These numbers change accordingly to which character it is, so I'm guessing its displaying the character number or something, but I dont know how to get it to work. kochi (mincho and gothic) fonts are nowhere to be seen in the font lists of these programs. Also now, japanese fonts are thin and too small to properly see many kanji.
My .xinitrc is as follows:
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
#export GDK_USE_XFT=1
export LANG=ja_JP.eucJP
export LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.eucJP
export LC_MESSAGES=en_US
export XMODIFIERS="@im=skkinput"
skkinput&
exec fluxbox -dpi 111 _________________ Aspiring to once become a great geek
