You can check out mpd. It uses a daemon on the computer you want to play on and then you connect to that with a remote GUI.
I think you can use pulseaudio if you only want to redirect your music to the other computer. |

Some years ago I read a funny article how to configure the lpd of one of the machines to "print" a (music) file to a (speaker) device, but I dunno whether this is what you were looking for |

based on unix principle everything is a file, one would think, that just a mount of a sound device
should be enough to play music everywhere...
I don't know whether it's still the truth... _________________ Lefsha |

That HOWTO is out of date and based on the now discontinued 0.8 series of gstreamer, and associated plugins. I'm afraid it won't work now.
MPD and a networked MPD client is probably the best solution. |

There are real solutions to do this, so doing it this way would just be a really ugly solution. |

My God! How right you were! It works like a charm!
Just installed mpd and gmpc/mpc set them up and it rocks...
gmpc is the best player (client) I've eve seen.
Many many thanks to you !!!
P.S. Just out of curiosity. Is it possible to turn it other way around? I mean play the music on the machine where client is working? And switch between them? _________________ Lefsha |

new mpd got his "own streaming" thingi, devs says it use less cpu time than using mpd with icecast
just compile mpd with +network use flag and add another outpout in your config, for example
Code: | audio_output {
type "httpd"
name "pla pla"
port "8000"
bitrate "128" # do not define if quality is defined
format "44100:16:1"
}
