|
|
Hi all. I upgraded googleearth this morning and now when I
start it I get a message saying something like:
currently running opengl in software emulation mode
googleearth is slow
glxinfo says direct rendering is ON
this is intel GM965 driver 2.8.1
xorg-server 1.6.3.901-r1
mesa 7.5.1
kernel 2.6.31-zen0
Is this just the current state of intel graphics, or might
there be a fix? TIA _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

Just writing to confirm I have the same (also intel video card)
glxinfo:
direct rendering: Yes
and also very very slow googleearth and the same warning about software emulation.
(I for one am slowly losing faith in Intel graphics) _________________ only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars |

Glad I'm not alone I guess
But in a fit of madness I thought I'd try out the x11 overlay's
mesa and intel drivers.
BAD IDEA. This did not fix googleearth but now I've lost
all kde desktop effects - they will not initiate and kde disables
them if I try to set them.
I've gone back to intel 2.8.1 but the problem persists.
I've rebuild kwin and plasma-workspace but the problem persists.
I've even rebooted but the problem persists.
PLEASE NOTE: all packages installed are now back to exactly the same versions
as when I started this misadventure when desktop effects worked perfectly.
This is the kind of thing that makes you want to buy a mac. _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

Maybe it's a stupid idea but, have you tried using different web browsers? _________________ Si el tonto te alaba laméntalo, si el listo te censura piénsalo. |

I found that removing ~/.drirc let me get back desktop effects.
How would using a different web browser have any effect on
the composite extension and opengl? _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth
