Since the last emerge, it looks like OOo doesn't understand OOXML anymore. It *thinks* it does -- formats like .docx are offered in the Open dialog -- but it always fails with "Read-Error: Data could not be read from the file." I've tried it on files that I know I've opened before. (People keep sending me Word documents instead of something decent.) 'file -z' says they're XML documents inside Zip archives, as they should be, and when I look inside with 'unzip -v' it looks like the usual OOXML gunk. Is anybody else seeing this? Any ideas?
[time passes]
strace shows OOo trying to run /usr/lib/openoffice/ure/lib/OdfConverter, and not finding it. There *is* /usr/lib/openoffice/program/OdfConverter but it's more than two years old, probably not from the current ebuild. I don't see any USE flags that look like they would affect the building of this.
[keys clicking]
I symlinked the old OdfConverter into the directory where OOo 3.1.1 is looking for it and now I get the document loaded. So at least I can read the stuff my boss passed me for my comments. :-) But I suspect there should be a newer version of the converter built as part of 3.1.1 -- how to make that happen? |
