By the end of the week i will own my own domainname  and i have been reading about hosting my own website using my domainname. What would be the easiest way to accomplish this? I would like to be able to view the webpage locally on my network and also set up my network to use the domain(computername.domain.com or w/e) and i read about Reverse DNS(what does this accomplish?).

Also....i am currently using no-ip for my FTP url but i want it to be ftp.mydomain.com instead of ******.no-ip.com. How can i do this. Is it possible for free? Any help would be appreciated. i just wanna make sure i understand everythign and have it all setup when i get my domainname. thx.

you mean you will purchase a zone name by the end of the week?

a zone is like yahoo.com, and the www.yahoo.com is a domain name under the zone "yahoo.com"

If you have purchased a zone say foo.com
convention tells you www.foo.com under foo.com is port 80, which port 80 by convention is listened by web server (like apache).

does that answer your question.

emerge aWebServerProgram
emerge aFtpProgram

then go to places like zoneedit.com
to have your domain points to your IP
