Any idea why my mplayer refuses to play sound even if I force it to use alsa9 in mplayer.conf?
It always returns to null sound device. |

mplayer -ao help ? |

funny, I have the exact same problem. Even when specifying -ao /dev/dsp or something like that (dont know if thats the correct syntax). |

Isn't it kinda backwards using SDL for audio? I mean mplayer has an oss driver for sure, and I think it has an alsa driver that can be compiled too...
Maybe whoever made that ebuild should take a look... |

mplayer -va alsa9
I uses alsa audio as described in the gentoo desktop guide, and x11 for video:
mplayer -vo x11 -va alsa9 |

You mean -ao, don't you?
I did set alsa9 in the config file before but no sound. |

I have oss and arts in my use flags and everything, but mplayer still won't compile with either of those, as in doesn't include the drivers, not that it causes the compile to fail. |
