Alright, I am pretty livid at this point. I've been trying to set up Mediatomb to serve up mp3s to my PS3. I am currently encountering two issues:
1) None of the album information is being picked up by Mediatomb. I copy mp3s from a CD I purchased as well as a .txt file containing all the requisite information. How to I get mediatomb to pick up this info? Amarok has no problem identifying the album, year, etc., but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get Mediatomb to get with the program.
2) I can play songs using my PS3, but no sound is output. It as if the volume is set to 0 somewhere. I've checked that my PS3 volume settings are correct and I get the appropriate system sounds, but cannot get any mp3s to output sond.

I've never had these problems myself. However I've acctually never gotten Mediatomb to work satisfactory but a while ago I heard about PS3MediaServer and I've never looked back to MediaTomb since then.
PS3MediaServer is my recommendation, easy to setup and works like a charm.
Transcoding - no problem. Streaming web-media - no problems there either.
Regards

Fixed the problems. The mp3 files I was trying to play had no metadata embedded in them so Mediatomb couldn't identify artist/genre/etc. I had my audio output formats incorrect in my PS3 sound settings, causing no audio output.
The next issue I am encountering is that all songs are showing up twice in mediatomb. It is quite annoying. Anyone else experience this?
Is PS3 media server available via Portage? I looked, but couldn't find it. |

Fixed the double entries, now Mediatomb is alphabetizing my songs, but I want them in album order. How do I fix this? |

PS3MediaServer, PMS, is not yet in portage, unfortunately.
There is however a ebuild for it among the bugs.
Download the ebuild to /usr/local/portage/net-misc/ps3mediaserver
Create the folder /usr/local/portage/net-misc/ps3mediaserver/files
If you're on amd64 you have to edit the ebuild adding ~amd64 to the keywords
run as root "ebuild /usr/local/portage/net-misc/ps3mediaserver/theebuild.ebuild digest"
Apply proper unmasking if necessary.
Emerge the package and run "pms" as a normal user.
PMS needs java 1.6.0 to work properly.
Regards
