yes they cant send me files when i use gaim.

Thats because (IMHO) gaim doesnt support file transfers yet.

While on the topic of Gaim, does anyone prefer an alternative? It is handy, but still a little rough around the edges.

You could try everybuddy (www.everybuddy.com), but to be honest, I stopped using that in favor of gAIM.

you could also try the official aim from aol.com, but imho gaim is still the best...

That seems to be the consensus. I guess I'll just stick with it, and hope the coders are hard at work :).
I'm using the MSN protocol, so the official AIM won't do me much.

The buddy pounce option is so awesome! Does any other client have that? I started using gaim and never looked back...

try using the direct connect thing and having them use insert->image or sound and then u can save it :)

I just wish the chat box would flash when someone types you a message. I never realized how much I would miss that feature until it was gone. Kinkatta does it, but it's not as versatile as GAIM, oh well...
