Call of Duty, works just as good as Windows. Elite Force 1 does to(why wouldn't it ) Hopefully though they will port COD to Linux, or atleast let icculus do it.
EDIT - I just tried Elite Force 2, I'm pleased to say that it works, and it works flawlessly. However, you have to have it install on Windows and you have to look at the registry for it. _________________ "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we, they never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." You can't disable it for wine, you just can't use the ide-scsi module for your cdrom (which shouldn't be a problem, since ATAPI burning is now supported so there is no need for ide-scsi). |
O.K. I have the ide-scsi module installed for my Zip drive, but as far as I know, my CD-R/W drive is an ATAPI device (but come to think of it, the presence of a CD-R/W drive kinda makes my Zip obsolete, doesn't it?). _________________ I suck at signatures. |

Star Trek: Elite Force runs flawlessly, except when I go to play single-player it says to insert the CD even though I have it inserted and mounted. |

Ah I've figured this one out. The default wine config, doesn't have the Cdrom configured. Just go into the wine config and configure it by adding /mnt/cdrom to E is where i put it, and stuff like that, make sure the lines are uncommented. That is to say your problem is like mine and it keeps asking for the CD. _________________ "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we, they never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." O.K., you folks who have gotten Diablo II to work, how have you done it? I installed it just fine (ran "Install.exe" instead of "Setup.exe" on the CD), but when I try to run the video test, it comes back with no results and tells me that I have an incorrect version of DirectX installed. So what's the secret? I'd dearly love to get this game working in Linux, but the process is not nearly as easy as I have been led to believe.
Edit: I'm also having the problem that the keyboard is not getting passed to WarCraft III but to the console when I run Wine in fullscreen mode. War3 reads the keyboard fine when run in a window, but no luck in fullscreen mode. Another problem, I can't select a campaign to play in single player. I get to the campaign screen, but there's nothing to select.
So close, yet so far. _________________ I suck at signatures. |

nope doesn't ask for cd...in my case it just exits with unhandled exception...gdb wine > run stvoy.exe yields little else either...
thx for any other idears

the only thing that is discussed in that howto is how to dodge the 'cd-checking' which is supported now \m/
SO I guess The Mountain Man ( and me too) should look for some 'howto configure and understand all the options in wine' |

The same thing was happening to me. A work-around that works for me is to switch to another desktop while the game is loading, ie, load it in 1 and then switch to 2 while it is loading, or after it is loaded. Also, I had to include the following lines in my wine config:
Code: | [AppDefaults\\Warcraft III.exe\\x11drv]
"Desktop" = "800x600" |

I'm familiar with that page. However, it doesn't have a troubleshooting guide, such as, "What to do when the Diablo II video test fails" or "How to make the keyboard work in fullscreen WarCraft III."
In the case of WarCraft III, I'm able to start the game with CD checking and all and am even able to access Battle.net, but I can't start the single player campaign (I can play single player skirmish against the CPU, though) and the keyboard doesn't work in fullscreen mode. Other than those two problems, the game runs beautifully, even better than in Windows.
And I'm really stumped on how to force the Diablo II video test to run successfully. Another option, does anybody know what file is generated with the video test? Perhaps I could just copy it over from my Windows partition. Still, I'd love to know a "pure" Linux solution.

Yes, that forces the game to run in a window where inexplicably the game reads the keyboard fine. It's just when I try to run it fullscreen ("Desktop" = "N") that I have problems.
Thanks, though. _________________ I suck at signatures. |

The last thing that I need to get working under Linux, so I can do away with my windows partition once and for all, is Ragnarok Online... anyone know if they've got this game working under wine or winex fully yet?
If they do... and someone can help me get it working (i've tried but failed using an old winex-cvs), I can ditch windows for good! _________________ Curtis Hogg [ buckminst at inconnu dot islug dot org ]

Nope, that didn't work. Vid test still returns no results in the video test. It seems that Diablo II works for some people and not others, and there doesn't appear to be any magic bullet solutions.
At this point, I've pretty much given up trying to get these programs to work in Linux. I guess I'll be hanging onto my Windows partitions for the forseeable future. _________________ I suck at signatures. |

Sorry to bump an old thread but has anyone had any luck in running Natural-Selection in the new wine build? I find it odd how I've had every Half Life mod work except this one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I have been playing this with winex 2.x since it's first version! I never really tried it with normal wine, but it works great in winex (with voice chat and everything) |

I haven't had the same luck with the intro. It seems that any Bink video is touchy at best (running smoothly sometimes & an absolute mess others). Also, the game crashes regularly, though from what I've read it does that in Windows anyway. The lack of an auto save makes it *painful* to play at times.
Are there any settings in Wine's config that have helped anyone get better video performace? Even the R&D screen runs slowly for me since it's got some Bink video on it too. _________________ -It's gonna take a lot of fireworks to clean this place up. |
