Ability to build kernel from 2.4.0 source + patches

This will reduce download times, local storage requirements, and load on kernel mirrors.

Just in case you are on a broadband connection and think I'm insane, the first item is very good news for dialup users.

I have posted an ebuild on user and dev mailing lists, I can copy here if anyone is interested . . .

Feel free to take this up in the mailing lists if you don't want to post here.

Have a copy of the kernel version 2.4.0 stay somewhere (CD, HD...)
Incrementally patch it until it reaches version 2.4.x (x>0)
Apply the Gentoo specific patches
End up with a current kernel

If yes, this sounds great to me!

Yes, the kernel + patches would be placed into /usr/portage/distfiles either by you or automagically.

Help me get this int Gentoo by supporting me on the mailing lists!

If anyone can tell me how to attach a file I'll post it here, but I don't want to make a mess with cut'n'paste.
