... sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Meanwhile I've forgotten if I got autologin enabled or not but sometimes I have to login and sometimes I don't. This problem exist since the last version of KDM for me. Using 4.4 now. |

try:
kdesu systemsettings
as a normal user and click on advanced then set autologin in login > convenience.

Thanks, but that's not the problem.
Problem is that no matter what I set - autologin or not - KDM does randomly start up with a login screen or simply logs in automatically to the desktop. It's not reliable. Sometimes I have to login and sometimes not. |

At least now you can tell if you have it set.
Took me a while to find this and use kdesu to change it.
Sorry I cannot help much further.
All I can suggest is that maybe you look into "openrc" if you
are using that as it may start some functions before others
and kick the login sequence out. |
