Not mentioned in this thread: there are now free resource files for OpenTTD, so you don't need to own original Transport Tycoon Deluxe to play OpenTTD anymore. Also version 1.0 beta was released recently.

Heya,

OpenLieroX 0.58 finally has gotten into the official Portage tree. Current version in Portage is 0.58 beta9. We already released 0.58 rc1 but it will be updated soon and 0.58 beta9 almost doen't differ from 0.58 rc1. Btw., it would be nice if some non x86/amd64 users could try this. Earlier versions have at least also worked on ppc but I don't have the hardware anymore to try myself.

We also made a new release: 0.59 beta3. This is really a beta release. Many crashes and problems are known. So if you have problems with it or don't like unstable software at all, 0.58 is for you, not 0.59.

However, 0.59 has some huge impressive improvements and additions. Basically, it has all of Gusanos added. I.e., there are Lua scripted levels and mods now, crazy graphic & light effects and 3D sounds. Take a look at the official announcement for some more information. Or take a look at this or this Youtube video, or this.

There is also an ebuild for 0.59 beta3. Other downloads are here.

If you have any questions or comments, post here.

Just wanted to let anyone, that might not know, that there is an excellent baseball simulation game that runs natively on linux. It is called Out of the Park Baseball. It is very reasonably-priced, and does not require the use of Wine or other workarounds.

I am currently running it on Gentoo flawlessly. There is a new version about to be released within a few weeks.

If you love baseball, you owe it to yourself to give this a try. If you love native linux games, please give it a look. It can be easily found doing a search for "OOTP".

Frogatto 1.0 has been released, under a free license (code is GPL).
A really neat platform game, with classic feeling... and amazing pixel art work.
Compiles and works great on my gentoo... but no ebuild yet.

kay, yes i see... sadly. now it needs much more power than the old version... on the other hand, it seems, that there are real efforts under way. Could it become a real (OSS) successor to the original one.... ? I hope they focus on quests and a fine story. And the major question: will they come to an end with there work...?

Arkanoidsb is now free, rather than shareware :)

Wow, that is my first game for linux. In near feature I plan to release Arkanoid: Space Ball 2 based on new engine with nice effects. And again freeware for linux users.

Take a look on my other freeware games;

Between the Worlds - hidden-object style game.

Hotei's Jewels: Relax - match-3 style game.

And useful tool:

Rubik's cube stop-watch - rubik's cube timer with many useful features.

Simple Viewer GL - fast image viewer, support large and multi-paged images.

Hey guys,
I am a Gentooist and an Ubisoft employee. We have ported one of our game called From Dust to Native Client, which means that it can be played on Windows / Mac / Linux, within the Chrome browser. The downside is that it's still a Ubisoft, commercial game so unfortunately not free (in either sense), but well, if it can bring more people on linux, or at least break the myth that decent games don't exist on linux, thats still better than nothing to my mind...

By the way, for those of you who wouldn't know what native client is, it's a project of Google that permits to run native code inside your browser, which means that the game will run inside a tab of the browser. The game as been recoded using portable libraries so that it can be run on the 3 platforms... and I don't know what else to add. :)

Alien Arena: Mercury Edition has been released!

After months upon months of work, the newest version of Alien Arena has been unleashed with a number of new features, graphical enhancements, and a much faster rendering game engine.

Some of the new features for this release include:

  • Major improvements in map rendering speed
  • HD lightmaps
  • IQM mesh animation now handled in GPU for major performance gains
  • Particle rendering optimizations
  • Fixed issues with ATI and shaders
  • Soft shadowmapping for vegetation and players
  • Cubemapping on mesh and map surfaces
  • New glass and water effects
  • Weapon switching has been made significantly faster
  • TCA now best two out of three
  • Various player models received poly increases for smoothness
  • New armor models

Alien Arena is a freeware deathmatch game that has been around for some time, and steadily evolved into what we feel is a leader among a crowded fps field. With its smooth gameplay, balanced weapons, and rich, immersive arenas, the game is an artistically cohesive tour de force in the genre. Alien Arena is free to download, free to play, and the code is open sourced.

Did a search and found nothing, so im going to post it myself.
there is a game called Wakfu, that has a linux client

http://www.wakfu.com/

its a mmorpg, with turn based combat, but it also has some unique aspects to it.
For example, you can run for governor and change the laws of your city.
another cool aspect is that the player is responsible for the ecosystem. you could make some mob or resource extinct if you are note careful

Bat Egg [1] was released recently. It's kind of like Flappy Bird, but better (the creator has mentioned that it would probably be what Flappy Bird would be, if they made it, though they have not actually played it).

I should also mention Hive Time [2], a much larger project in comparison, which was released already a while ago now, but I didn't think of mentioning it here at the time.

The creator creates a lot of nice things, and I only have nice things to say about them. Linux is their main platform, and they help others port their games over as well.

Disclaimer: I've helped out with playtesting these games during development, but have not been paid for it, or for mentioning them here. :]
