|
|
Hi
I am trying to install gentoo on a dell poweredge sc440 that has an intel xeon processor on 64 bits using install_amd64-minimal-20100318 image.
I have come to the kernel compilation phase. Unfortunately, I'm not that good to manually configure and compile the kernel so I am using genkernel which generates a lot of errors and stops compiling the kernel.
I would have paste here all the errors but to honest I don't know how to copy them from the virtual machine window.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you! |

fedex,
This is a tool to put things on a pastebin site. When a build fails, it leaves a message on the screen stating where its log file is.
Use the command Code: | wgetpaste </path/to/file> | and tell us the URL that you get back.
We will also need your output from inside the virtual machine, if you are installing on a virtual machine.
Genkernel is not a good choice for you. It provides a preconfigured kernel that may well be missing a few key things you need.
Following the instructions on kernel-seeds.org is a better starting point. Post queries in this thread, pappy or someone else will provide support. _________________ Regards,

Hi NeddySeagoon and thanks a lot
The link for the uploaded log is http://paste.pocoo.org/show/237355/
As for the
command I have to tell you that I cannot run it. It tells me that the command was not found. |

fedex,
To run lspci inside your chroot, you need tohowever, its on the livecd too - but that will be outside the chroot.
Code: | kernel/bounds.c:1: error: code model 'kernel' not supported in the 32 bit mode
kernel/bounds.c:1: sorry, unimplemented: 64-bit mode not compiled in |
suggests that genkernel is trying to build a 32 bit kernel on your 64 bit system. What is the name of the stage3 file you used during your install ?
It may still be in your / _________________ Regards,

The name of the stage file is stage3-i686-20100622.tar.bz2.
The result from lspci can be found at http://paste.pocoo.org/show/237841/
Thank you! |

For 64 bits you need stage3-amd64-20100617.tar.bz2 from releases/amd64/current-stage3/ The date part of the name may vary. |
