| You might want to try emerging media-plugins/alsa-plugins with the pulseaudio USE-flag turned on. I had a similar problem with Flash (and only Flash) and that was the solution. Also, you don't need www-plugins/libflashsupport installed, contrary to some other posts. |

Flash is very particular about buffer_size it seems. Please try improved dmix.
Now we have 3 current "flash - no sound" threads  |

worked for me too!
in addition I just had to alter /etc/asound.conf, then sound was working again:

Hi Paul
I had about the same issue as the OP and your asound.conf fixed it. However now I'm getting "clicks" and sound lags (=when I watch a youtube vid and have mpd playing, sometimes there is like 3 seconds silence in the video).
Do you have any ideas what causes this or what to do about it? |

Then why does it work just fine for a single sound source?
For instance if I set my mpd audio_output to

I get clean sound but mpd locks the sound output. If I remove the device "hw:0,0" line, I get those clicks.

Well, I can understand them. The way sound output works is obscure and working around the issues is tedious.
There's simply too much voodoo involved. |

I have also this issue :')
I have pulseaudio installed.

Miraculously, after the deletion of pulseaudio's config files, reemerging pulseaudio, launching pavucontrol, freezing, rebooting, a new option appeared in pavucontrol which solved the problem =>  |

Thanks, I got rid of pulseaudio and after 2 years of very confusing sound problems, reliable sound is finally back on my box (like it was 7 years ago)!
