GTK based apps have problems displaying Chinese in KDE

Hi i am a newbie. I have encountered the following problem:

I have installed Chinese fonts and set locale to zh_CN.gbk, which consequently worked very well. i.e. KDE applications are displaying recognisable Chinese characters. But GTK based applications such as XMMS, Grip are displaying unrecognisable Chinese characters after setting locale to zh_CN.gbk. But I know it's Chinese characters, just unrecognisable...(improper encoding?)

Can anyone help me resolve this problem? Any suggestion will be appreciated!
