I'm trying an emerge oopenoffice. So far three attempts have failed. Eiterh because of patches that couldn't be aplied, ore, recently, because of disk space problems.

My /tmp partition is 2Gb. Emerge openoffice fills it completely, and then quits complaining not enough space is available.

So how much does on need to compile openoffice?

Hi,

i am trying to compile it right now. Everything goes fine until now. I hope it stays that way... ;-) But in regard to your question:

Here's what I found in the source of openoffice-1.0.0-r2.ebuild :

# notes:
# This will take a HELL of a long time to compile, be warned.
# According to openoffice.org, it takes approximately 12 hours on a
# P3/600 with 256mb ram. And thats where building is its only task.
#
# It takes about 6 hours on my P4 1.8 with 512mb memory, and the
# build only needs about 2.1GB of disk space - Azarah.
#
# You will also need a bucketload of diskspace ... in the order of
# 4-5 gb free to store all the compiled files and installation
# directories.
#
# The information on how to build and what is required comes from:
# http://tools.openoffice.org/ext_comp.html
<snip>

To compile it, I changed my PORTAGE_TMPDIR env var to somewhere with enough space....

I hope this helps.

Grtx,

Anton.
