Hi,

does anyone have the same problem:

since I upgraded to kde-4.5, dolphin is more or less unusable. it takes minutes (honestly!) to open folders or even the context menu.

Just recognized that dolphin-4.5 is not in the main portage tree, probably due to these problems. Anyway, is there a solution?

I'm using it, no problems. Well, no dolphin problems. I have an intel igp so KDE is slow in general, but dolphin is perfectly fine. Have you checked whether it's just your cpu usage being too high? Any other programs having the problem?

its not a CPU issue, I can use all other programs while dolphin still tries to open a folder.

Did you ever get this figured out?

I click an icon, takes 5-10 seconds to open.

Right click, 5-10 seconds for a context menu.

Paste, 5-10 seconds before the operation starts.

It's driving me nuts.

it was solved for me by unmerging / deleting everything kde related and restarting from scratch with a fresh emerge kde. Dolphin is now usable, without being incredibly fast.

two debug suggestions:

a) try with a fresh user (aka a fresh .kde folder)
b) reset the windowdecoration to plastik or something other simple. I had slowness issues with window decorations (no kidding!) where i took ages to open windows etc...

greets
