I'm wondering why I get this in my logs if I switch the from the VT7 to VT12 and back :

the lines leading up to "hard resetting link" would be infinitely more helpful.

The sata controller signals link errors so the kernel resets the sata link.
I can't tell why this is, maybe EMI, weak power supply, or old kernel?

By "old kernel", how old do you mean? 2.6.32?

What changed to avoid this problem? Any relevant bug report in kernel?
