I am looking for a good general purpose audio app for linux. I know there is "no contest" yet between the wonderful toys we have available on Mac and Win, but surely there has got to be something good for creating music! I have been considering Rosegarden, Rezound, Glame, and Audacity, but I wanted to know what some of your experiences have been with these packages (or any other notables). Thanks for the help.

I suppose it all depends on what sort of music you want to create!

terminatorX is damn fine at what it does, for example..

You've probably been here, but just in case, heres a very nice web site:

for the record, Audacity is nice, not quite SoundForge, but not quite $400 either! :) Don't forget tk707.

I really prefer ReZound over Audacity. It's a really nice app.

use ck-kernel (i think it is what the thing is called) for the lowest latency. I haven't really try it yet as currently i don't have too many drop outs.

For sequencer definitely get rosegarden, and it is the only one availablein the portage tree. Development is really fast lately.

If you just want to use your box for music production, then consider agnula project.

The great thing about linux is that each person can choose what they want to do with a computer. However, it's times like these, when each response is a different opinion, that I realize this freedom to also be a curse. A wonderful curse, but a curse nonetheless. I went with Rezound because it looked like the most simple (in my highly scientific quick screenshot analysis  ) I will let y'all know how it goes.
