In response to my original problem it seems to have self resolved with the release of the final ebuild.

Could you please test this example blog?
I cant see comments clearly. Instead of a white background I can only see a black one.

What about your FF4?

Thank you very much for this check.

Andrea

[rant]
I get up this morning and check to see what's new and ff/xulrunner now wants to pull in gconf/orbit.

I don't know who's decision that was, but if I wanted to run gnome, I'd install it.
I don't have it installed, I walked away from xfce when it wanted to do the same thing.

The whole pull in gnome configurator for a non-gnome package wasn't very bright, IMO
it should have been bracketed with a gnome use flag and not even ask for gnome
stuff unless the flag was set.

Ran into the same. In my case, this pulls in dbus too since I don't have it installed. IIRC previous versions made pulling in gconf dependant on the gnome useflag.

Worse is that firefox now depends on mesa. Well, the ebuild doesn't depend on it, but it will fail to configure if you don't have it installed. I use FF on a server without any sort of graphics or sound hardware, and I don't want the new acceleration. Is there a mozconfig to disable this perhaps?

I also had to patch the ebuild to disable webm, it failed to build otherwise because alsa wasn't installed. But for now I've just hardmasked >=ff4 due to this mass of new dependancies I have no use for.

Hmm, I am using RC2 (which is supposedly the same as 4.0) and it didn't have the dependency on gconf and it runs fine...

The reasoning in the ebuild is not very convincing either:
Code:
# XXX: GConf is used for setting the default browser
#      revisit to make it optional with GNOME 3
RDEPEND="
   [...]
   >=gnome-base/gconf-1.2.1:2

Anyone want to file a bug and see what happens?
