this may (and probably) is something very trivial, i'm sure, but since logging out of my user last night i have only been able to log into root since i first logged on this morning. it is sort of vexing to say the least. i have deleted my user and added, changed around groups, etc, etc.... to no avail. though, even more, i am noticing that there is a haldaemon user and group. i haven't been using 'hal' for obvious reasons, so why is it coming up now and being a part of my "disk" groups? also the same with plugdev. wt heck? i'm posting this to see if anyone may have an answer before i go into 'tear-sh*$-apart' mode.
any and all help is very appreciated

so, well, i dunno, i'm able to drop out of X into a terminal where i can log in as my user, but apparently slim isnt letting me now. so, here is my slim.log
(EE) GLX error: Can not get required symbols.
(EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad no synaptics event device found
(EE) Query no Synaptics: 6003C8
(EE) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"
slim: Last login: Tue Apr 5 19:48:19 EDT 2011 on :0.0
/usr/bin/xauth: file /home/darkstar/.Xauthority does not exist
/usr/share/slim/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
Could not find appropriate session script, exec'ing xterm
No protocol specified
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :0.0
slim: waiting for X server to shut downOutput UNIPHY0 transmitter setup success
why can't it find and appropriate session script? i can log into flux as root but not as user darkstar.
i've looked at my /usr/share/X11/Xsession and /etc/X11/Sessions/fluxbox and am thinking about trying to insert echo's to figure out where things are hanging up, UNLESS anyone has another suggestion? |

If you upgraded the xserver, perhaps you've forgot to reemerge the drivers.
But full xorg log would be more useful. |
