I have always trouble when upgrading qt. Same today. After emerge -vpu world a few blocks regarding At pops up. Is it any way to upgrade qt without to much effort and time wasting?

what does grep x11-libs/qt- /var/lib/portage/world return?
My guess is, that you have versioned qt in your world...

next guess - a missing entry in keywords file - namely qt-declarative

I there a particular reason for upgradeing with emerge -vpu world instead of emerge -vpuD world?
you world file is missing qt-declarative, and I guess that is why does not upgrade it and cause an error...

you may either use emerge -pvDu world to upgrade everything, or if you are just interested in upgrade qt, emerge -a1 $(qlist -IC x11-libs/qt-) should do the trick. you may need to install gentoolkit first.

there are 2 possibilities assuming, that qt is only a dependency:
either add all required qt packages to the world file, or remove all of them. A mix causes a stir like you had.
qlist -IC x11-libs/qt- will give you that list.

personally, I avoid having qt in my world file - if anything is needed, it gets pulled in by the respective apps (mostly kde)

Came here from google with a very similar issue.

The qt packages have moved since this was written, so to run the qlist command today, that would be

I solved this issue by doing this -

ls /var/db/pkg/dev-qt/ -1 | sed 's/-[0-9].*//'

then take the output of that and emerge them all at once

Those steps should not be needed and it's best to figure out the real problem if one thinks they are. This kind of hack usually means the real issue gets unresolved (whatever Portage was stuck on, it won't have been Qt itself in almost all cases), and so you end up having other conflicts in future.

emerge -pev @world --backtrack=0 is quite good at exposing packages which cannot be re-emerged and hence are likely to block upgrades.
