There are so few changes from -10 that I'm not bothering with it until mm-sources are in Portage.

I know I could just get it from kernel.org, but I'm lazy and feel dirty using anything that doesn't come from Portage.

Just take your test 10 ebuild and rename it changing the 10 to an 11, you could be nicer though, and find a kernel.org mirror and use that.

Why? It seems extremely stable to me... I'm, on test11 now and hope preempt is fixed...

I love it, it's a clear performance boost over 2.4, plus I can run the latest stuff...

I am not using the ~x86 flags since I had errors previously...

But I am running test11

if your system is not a production system, this kernel should be more than stable enough.
However even with a production System I would think about trying it out, due to the perfomance gains compared to the 2.4 series.

Yes compiling kernels is fun. I get the same feeling I got on christmas when I was around 10 and got to open all these nice presents. You know something good is on the way... at least most of the time :-)

Yeah, I can't tell any difference between test10 and test11 so far. The only thing I wish is that they would apply the bootsplash patch into the kernel, so I don't have to every time.

ive tried it today, and woha .. the speed goes all the way around the system, even the mouse feels more "jumpy"

I've spent a good portion of today getting 2.6.0-test11 going, up from 2.4.20-r8 and so far so good. Got my video, sound and externel serial modem going - yay.

Only one bizarre problem, vi segmentation faults now (only vi so far), it's really strange... have tried re-emerging vi, no luck though. Small files don't seem to be affected???

Can someone else with 2.6.0-test11 try doing:

Did you try moving your .vim* files around?

Now that 2.6 development has really 'settled down', I thought I'd give it a shot (with gentoo-dev-sources).

I've gotten to the point where it boots without many problems, but nvidia won't work with me. I remerged nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx and it does load the nvidia module. The X error tells me that it can't find /dev/nvidiactl :/ Any way I can solve this? Putting everything back in order, remerging nvidia-* with kernel 2.4.20 (gentoo-sources)makes it work again.

PARENA make sure the 2.6 kernel you are currently using is linked to /usr/src/linux otherwise building the nvidia drivers fail miserably.
