I'm not sure if this is specific to the Alpha, but I cannot find any references. I've been trying to build Xfce on my Alphaserver. Apparently it needs the package consolkit, which in turn requires the kernel .config option CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL=y.
However, I cannot seem to get that option. Not only is the menuconfig option I've seen in posts on the subject not there, but even when I add it manually to the .config file it disappears and I still get the error message when I try to compile consolekit.
Does the Alpha simply not support it? Do I have to turn to something other than Xfce? |

unless I am missing something, it is not available on alpha. the output comes from 3.0_rc4 kernel.
Code: | │ Symbol: AUDITSYSCALL [=y]
│ Type : boolean
│ Prompt: Enable system-call auditing support
│ Defined at init/Kconfig:356
│ Depends on: AUDIT [=y] && (X86 [=y] || PPC || S390 || IA64 || UML || SPARC64 || SUPERH) |

(This is the correct place for Alpha questions)
Hm, we'll have to check on this.
If you would, please file a bug at bugs.gentoo.org.
Also, it would be great if you would hang out in the #gentoo-alpha IRC channel on Freenode with us. _________________ My Wiki page |

Thank you for the attention. However, after checking Bugzilla, I found an identical bug report, 354635 (except for ARM, which also does not have AUDITSYSCALL support), which was closed RESOLVED WORKSFORME, since apparently nothing can be done if/until the kernel is fixed. In addition, it is apparently too much effort to mask consolekit for minor architectures.
As for IRC, I always avoid it, I'm afraid. I'm a poor conversationalist and I type slowly.
For my Alpha, I'll wipe the partition and start over. Perhaps I'll revert to hal, or maybe try Gnome instead... |

We don't bite.
We'd love to have you there. Hope you'll reconsider. _________________ My Wiki page |
