You could install google desktop and allow it to index the home folder. You would get filename as well as file content search
http://desktop.google.com/linux/ (I can provide an ebuild if you want. b.g.o might also have an ebuild.)

Look at recoll too. If you search for "desktop search tools linux" you will come across reviews and it seems recoll generally comes up at the top. The fact that google-desktop is unavailable any more makes me rethink if I want to continue running the google desktop I have or should I switch to something else.
