|
|
Recently mplayer and mencoder have stopped working for mpeg2 files.
I don't have any problems playing the videos with ffplay or any other video player
so Iam pretty sure the files are ok.
I receive the following error
mpeg2video @ 0x7ff4ba6a4d00]get_buffer() failed (stride changed)
Error while decoding frame!
Been stuck on this problem for awhile, if anyone has seen and fixed this problem
I'd greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks |

I too have been seeing the same error with certain vob files taken direct from my DVD collection. In my case the problem went away by reverting to a previous version of mplayer. |

I gave up as well. I just built mplayer direct from their svn and uninstalled the gentoo version.
Now everything is working, including some other problems I was having with mp4 files.
I guess I should file a bug, but I'm not sure if the problem lies in mplayer or ffmpeg. |

Same here with:
Code: | $ emerge mplayer -pv
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

A solution other than reverting to old mplayer or installing it by hand would be appreciated

This is 455046. However, the ffmpeg-1.x versions are still in testing. _________________ Please read our FAQ Forum, it answers many of your questions.

This sounds like the issue I had. It would play the audio from an mpeg2 file but give me the "Blue Screen of Death" for the video. I also had reverted to a previous version of mplayer over the last year because all of the versions greater than 1.0_rc4 did this.
Checking out the link to the bug report above revealed that the problem is actually in ffmpeg. OK, ffmpeg isn't actually the problem, but when you upgrade mplayer here, you also have to upgrade ffmpeg first. The dependency in portage won't do this for you here.
It's actually a pretty big upgrade for ffmpeg; going from 0.10.7 to 1.0.7 in my case. After upgrading ffmpeg you will have to recompile/update everything dependent on it including mplayer. Fortunately portage gives you the emerge command for this after the updated ffmpeg is installed.
Anyways, the new mplayer now works on my DVDs and mpeg2 files again, thanks to this thread. _________________ Dew knot trussed yore spell chequer two fined awl ewer miss steaks. |
