|
|
Okay, I've never overclocked a computer before. First, I need to know whether overclocking a P4 1.5ghz is even possible. If it is, is it recommended? How much of an improvement can I expect it to have. I plan to have Gentoo on it.
Let's say that it is overclockable and recommended. How would I overclock it? I have absolutely no clue on how to go about this. An internet document/tutorial or explanation would be very appreciated. Thanks. |

overclocking is done in bios by changeing the clock frequences, p4's run pretty hot and gentoo can hardwork for hardware there are plenty of websites kicking about but presonally i woulnt bother, if you are just trying to speedup compile times it will probably melt on you and after christmas youll probably see a bunch of 2.4ghz on ebay cheep they are already about £85 and i hear they are clockable to 3ghz _________________ Giay tay nam | Giay nam cao cap | Giay luoi |

Today's CPUs are so fast I don't believe that overclocking is worth the risk. These days the real bottleneck of a PC is the hard drive.
Still, if you wish to learn about overclocking then I would suggest a google search on overclocking. _________________ The true guru is a teacher.

I have a P4 Dell that is a 1.5ghz machine and overclocking is not worth your while... I got very slight improvements in compiling (maybe 1-2 minutes difference) and my benchmark tests were almost the exact same. |
