Well that last part alone tells me that this is the correct thing to do

I have the same problem and I love coming here because I almost always get the answer I need and from courteous, humane people.
I had been unable to install Gentoo for a while because of this very issue. Just received a replacement laptop and man I am gonna watch it FLY!!!
I feel like a kid with unlimited candy cane at my disposal.
