But they aren't playable on linux, unless you care to show us how. _________________ CPU: 3800+ X2 (2.5Ghz)

Patch v436 removes the need to use the CD in Windows. If UT is up to date, shouldn't that be the case in Gentoo as well? |

Isn't quake 3 Open Source? Why would you need a CD?

the rott and duke3d packages install with demo-data. what I meant was a rott-data and duke3d-data package. sorry
Is this thread supposed to list packages that are IN portage which require non-free data, or packages which *need* to be made which install non-free data? |

Is this thread supposed to list packages that are IN portage which require non-free data, or packages which *need* to be made which install non-free data? | This is supposed to be for those games where you need to have external data like a disk with the game data on to play it, i.e. you cant play it from the package in portage. If you can get the data from another package in portage then it doesn't go here.
So do your games go there or not? _________________ https://otw20.com/ OTW20 The new place for off the wall chat |

rott - this game requires non-free data. however, it has a "demo" use flag for the shareware version straight from portage
duke3d - this - this game requires non-free data. however, it has a "demo" use flag for the shareware version straight from portage
quake3 team arena - this package was release commercially and has a "cdinstall" useflag, but I think the data is now free (I installed it without CD and it works...)
quake1 mission pack: scourge of armagon - there is no package for this, but I'm about to submit one (and it required a non-free data)
quake1 mission pack: dissolution of eternity - there is no package for this, but I'm about to submit one (and it required a non-free data)
quake2 mission pack: ground zero - this is currently available as a use flag of quake2-data, and requires non-free data.
quake2 mission pack: the reckoning - this is currently available as a use flag of quake2-data, and requires non-free data.
they all fit the bill, unless you count the shareware versions of rott and duke3d, and the possiblity that quake3 team arena may now be free. |

Played Beneath A Steel Sky and Flight of the Amazon Queen (with ScummVM) a year ago and have just tested it on a Gentoo platform.
No issues. Tested, works 100%; sounds, graphics, fullscreen, windowed, quit. These are freeware so there shouldn' be a need for the original disks. |

|
|
Last Saturday i was at my brothers house on the wii (cause i'm cool lol) and i played quite a few games, then i came across Zelda, a game that i didn't even knew he had, i was extremly shocked by this because i have often told people to start playing Zelda and seeing it lying next to that wii in my brothers house almost stopped my heart. So of course i put it in. and i'm afraid to say i was pretty bored after about an hour and a half. The starting is pretty boring, but if you like NO action what-so-ever or anything like that then it's a good game for you, things like finding your horse and stuff like that bored the hell out of me. but on the plus i loved the puzzles, me being quite a fond gamer this game didn't appeal to me as much as some others, my brother has okay taste but i would give that game 5/10, personally i prefer games with a bit more ACTION
if you can recommend any good games for me please do because i'm bored of these crap games with good graphix, people really need to start focusing on the game and not the look, like the good old days |

These don't seem to have ebuilds. I only checked portage, so if you happen to know ebuilds elsewhere, feel free to say. _________________ koradji login: emerge nvidia-drivers

You can remove Beneath A Steel Sky (games-rpg/bass) and Flight of the Amazon Queen (games-rpg/queen) from your list as it is freeware; there are no other sources required to play the game with ScummVM.
You should also remove all ScummVM games from your list as it makes no sense at all to include all games that can be played through ScummVM. If you really want a complete list, refer to http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility.php - all these games require the original files.
Why make a list and then add each and every game that comes to mind, when there isn't an ebuild for it in the portage tree in the first place?
Your initial posting said "Please Post ALL! Games That Need Either the Original Disk", so you really mean ALL games? These are thousands and more, whereas it would make sense to have a list of already AVAILABLE games in the portage tree that require original game files...
BTW, it is "ScummVM" or, if you insist it to be an engine instead of a virtual machine, "SCUMM engine", not "SCUUMM Engine Games".
Besides that, good idea. I was also in the situation of finding games in portage that turned out to be no value if you don't have the game already... |

Hey, -
You could add the portage ebuild path, e.g. "games-something/name-of-the-game", which would greatly improve the value of this list!
Greetings again, A. |

Both Warcraft 3 & Warcraft 3 Expansion (The Frozen Throne) no longer require disc to operate. However, you have to have the latest patch (1.21b) installed in order to do that. They also run flawlessy under Wine. _________________ CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo

I'd like to add Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire (games-strategy/smac).
If somebody is interested: I just submitted ebuilds to bugs.gentoo.org for games-strategy/smac and for games-strategy/heroes3 for the PPC platform.
Cheers,
Thomas |
